Estradiol for Menopause Symptoms

Posted by Team BRI on

Between 45 to 55 years of age, most women go through a miserable phase because it is that time of a women’s life during which her menstrual period terminates and she can no longer conceive. It is known as menopause. The term usually applies when a woman does not have any vaginal bleeding for about a year. It also applies to the decrease in the level of estrogen levels due to the ovaries’ inability to make estrogens. When the estrogen level drops women experience a range of uncomfortable symptoms like hot flashes, trouble sleeping, mood swings, vaginal dryness, itching or burning, loss of energy, headaches, lack of concentration, etc. While the symptoms may be mild in most women, it can be severe in some cases too. When the symptoms become severe, treatment is required to alleviate the conditions.

What is Estradiol?

Estradiol is a medicines which contains hormones similar to the hormone estrogen produced in the body. During menopause, when a woman’s estrogen level becomes low, estradiol helps in the hormone replacement therapy to ease the symptoms associated with menopause. It can also be taken to prevent the occurrence of osteoporosis that usually follows the menopause. Osteoporosis is a condition where people have thin bones, thus, increasing the chances of bone fractures. Estradiol comes as a great reliever as it helps in slowing down the development of osteoporosis.
